The portrait commission begins with a series of photographs and colour studies either at the clients house or michael’s studio in East London.
This stage usually takes around 2-3 hours. More than a hundred photos are taken until a set of three are chosen that we both agree would make for a striking portrait.
Once this stage is complete michael paints a colour study and sketches a few tonal drawings to better inform the final painting.
an additional sitting towards the end of the commission is usually required for final adjustments.
The painting itself takes around 2-6 weeks to complete depending on Michael’s current commission schedule. Due to the nature of oils the commission is usually ready to be delivered within 2 - 3 months.
